Here is our final product with improvements made to it from audience feedback.

Final Product: DigiPak

FINAL DIGIPAK

The original net we used:

Final Product: Magazine Advert

Final Product: Advert with audience feedback

  • we have showed our peers what we have created and they have showed various opinions on our  advert which is good because we are able to understand their point of view.
  • The main feedback we have received was that the picture does resemble the genre of rap based on the clothing of the character and the graffiti style image.
  • We have received comments that it includes what real adverts have seen of bands such as 'Chainsmokers' and 'Jay-z'. They said that it contains what is needed on a adverts e.g. the social media links like spotify and the website which will allow them to find out more about the music video.
  • its aesthetically pleasing to the eyes because of the colour scheme, the colour scheme is blue yellow and orange which is contrasted with the great background. the image stands out to the audience which allows them to link the image of bart simpson to our rapper
  • our audiences believed that the font size of the title and name make it easier to distinguish what this advert is about (which is a song) and his name is easily distinguishable as it the first thing you see when looking at the poster
Criticisms:
  • based on my audience i was able to find out that the colour of grey on black makes the writing not stand out as she was not able to see the song/ album name.
  • The rating shown suggests that its like a movie as movie trailers have ratings on them which is what made them a bit confused about the intention of the advert. however they mentioned that because the rapper is crouching it makes it seem as if its a music video
  • the rapper was also an issue because he seems smaller than the image in the background of bart Simpson which means that the attention is on bart Simpson rather than on the rapper which is why he said to enlarge the image of the rapper to make it seem more about him.
overall they believed that the advert is believable and it does convey and portray rap genre throughout it as the graffiti links to rap/hip hop, the outfit of the rapper and pose makes him seem more ghetto and more like the hip hop culture. the vibe and atmosphere of adverts is a gangster vibe which is good because it suggests a strong link with rap genre.however there are aspects which i would change about this advert such as the font colour, it blends in too much with the grey background so if i was to repeate this process i would try and experiment with more colours and placements of fonts.

PRODUCTION: Rough Cut - Feedback

Here is the  first rough cut for our Music video 'TGIF' by Chris Yonge

And here is the feedback we got for our Rough Cut

Wednesday 13 December 2017

CONSTRUCTION POST: 3 days of filming

Day 1 of filming we filmed in Waterloo Graffiti tunnel
Our start time was 9:50 this is because we needed the tunnel to be empty so we chose 9;50 am because most people would be at work and this shows us carrying the dolly.

Our first try in filming, we were trying out angles, lighting and which end of tunnel we should film in, we had two cameras i shot long shots whilst the other filmed close ups

this is when we settled down in the waterloo tunnel,we needed the dolly for the tracking shots and smooth shots so this is us setting it up

this represents the two cameras we used, this shows the smoother dolly shots and the extreme close ups which we filmed. with two cameras we gained more angles and shots

this shows our useage of space and change of angles, also our two cameras are featured which shows the different angles we chose
this clip shows our journey we had to use two tubes to get to the location however we chose non busy hours so we got there in 1hour which is managable
this is us viewing the area, looking for sections of the tunnel to use for filming, we looked at graffiti which we though would look good such as the one on the ceiling or the one with the girl drawn on.

Day two: hounslow treaty centre car park:

here it shows how we recorded we had the song playing through speaker this allowed us to know what parts we need to film for the section of the song. We also needed to repeat a verse and re shoot which is why one filmed other changed song/ re winded it

this was us looking at locations, looking around this one for sections which we can film a dance routine in. We all started preparing the camera and lighting.

this clip shows us trying different angles, and areas in the same location. additionally we looked at health and safety measures as i looked around in case cars were coming as its was a car park

This is our group member warming up for the dance scene and us checking if the lighting is good / looking around for cars coming.
This clip shows how we needed someone to change the song and rewind it to the specific scene which we need to shoot in this location.
This is the behind the scenes, where we later switched who films so that me and my other group member each shoot certain scenes.
This sign we read it and it allowed us to film and what to do in case something happens which is important if a car runs us over or fire occurs while we film.
Day 3 of shooting: In our group members house:
This is us sending a message which would be shown on the camera where its filming the other phone which is receiving the text to make it seem as if he just got a text from a friend

This shows our creativity as we had one camera on a tripod and the other one was on books to make the camera angle low which would match the bed scene.

This clip shows our use of two camera which shows how we got more than one angle whilst shooting the same scene. This allows the editor to have more clips to chose from

RESEARCH: Camera Angles and Movement

Establishing shots

These shots are used to help show the audience the setting and location. These shots will only appear a couple times in the music video to give it a more cinematic look and also make the music video not look repetitive.

Close up

This shot helps an audience focus more on the character and his emotions rather then the setting and location.

Low angle shot

This shot is used so the audience are aware of their positioning in the scene, being higher than what they are looking at. This shot also helps to show how this is the main and most important character in the music video.

Two shot

This shot shows the the connection between the two characters. Here this shot shows how both characters enjoys 'Friday' as this day has the stereotype of going out and having fun.

Dolly shot

Panning shot

This shot helps to show more of the setting and location

Tilt shot

This shot helps to show more of the setting and location

PLANNING: WordBoard

These are some words which we will take in consideration when making our video, we will try to include most of these to make sure we are not going away from our aim which is to make a rap video seem realistic. To portray the verisimilitude we will include these aspects of laughter, colour and youth being presented which is important when making our video. By having this in editing we can see if we included these aspects e.g. colour or close ups on hand gesture or even having groups shots of him with his friends.

TECHNICAL: Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds divides a frame into nine sections.
The rule of thirds is a concept in video and film production in which the frame is divided into into nine imaginary sections, as illustrated on the right. This creates reference points which act as guides for framing the image.
Points (or lines) of interest should occur at 1/3 or 2/3 of the way up (or across) the frame, rather than in the centre.
Like many rules of framing, this is not always necessary (or desirable) but it is one of those rules you should understand well before you break it.

The eyes are placed 1/3 down the frame. In most "people shots", the main line of interest is the line going through the eyes. In this shot, the eyes are placed approximately 1/3 of the way down the frame.
Depending on the type of shot, it's not always possible to place the eyes like this.
The sky takes up approx. 2/3 of this frame. In this shot, the building takes up approximately 1/3 of the frame and the sky takes up the rest. This could be a weather shot, in which the subject is actually the sky.
Rule of Thirds in Film

TECHNICAL: Health and safety

Health and Safety:
We need to make sure that the camera is full on charge placed on the tripod when using it so that it does not fall off and break we have to ensure that the fast release plate is always on camera. we will make sure before picking up the tripod that we  check that the camera is safe and secure.

Filming at night & in the dark:
Secondly when filming at night/ in graffiti tunnels which is an environment we are not used to as its not local to us we need to make sure we will be safe and that are equipment is too. we could be at risk of getting our stuff stolen. To prevent this we will make sure our group sticks together to make sure the surrounding area is safe to use. We will also have someone to look around for cars, or people to warn them not to walk into our shots when we are filming.

Filming:
When we record we have to make sure that we have time for breaks, for food and drink and we should make sure that we are not tired so that we don't loose concentration and focus which could make us make mistakes.

When we are filming in a car park we should make sure that there are no cars coming in the way of our filming and we had to make sure we are not in the way of the customers who are parking.  Additionally in the tunnel we filmed at (waterloo tunnel) we had to make sure we are not obstructing street artists who we might get in the way. to prevent this we should choose areas in the tunnel which are not in use e.g. the end of it or the middle of tunnel.

Traveling to location:
when we travel we need to ensure that all equipment we take will return with us, so before traveling we check our equipment to make sure its with us so that we don't forget anything. When leaving, we will also count the equipment to make sure we don't forget anything.  When traveling by tube we will make sure every member has one piece of equipment so that its fairly distributed, e.g. one person holds dolly bag, other holds tripod and lastly someone has the camera bag/ lights/mic.

Use of Props:
When traveling we will need to ensure that we don't damage any props such as the champagne bottle which we brought to a filming location as then it wouldn't be usable. Additionally we were filming on a car park so if cars do drive we should leave the premises as we would obstruct We need to make sure whatever props we use that we use them properly and not break anything if we do.

Electrical equipment:
We need to make sure that whatever lighting we use that it is not at risk of being near water as the mixture of both could cause a hazard also to make sure that we use plugs which are secure and not got any electrical issues.

When using filming equipment such as lights and camera we need to ensure to keep the cables tucked away and make that our characters are aware of where the wires are so that no one trips over them and hurts themselves

Evaluation:
based on these health and safety measures we can ensure that we will include all of these when we are filming as these can impact the quality of our filming. We will ensure that these are taken into consideration as if we are reckless and leave camera equipment at school we will not have it to film so our production quality would go down due to the equipment not being with us.

TECHNICAL: FOLEY

Foley

Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. These reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass.

In the image above a Foley artist is recreating the noise of a bike pedalling.

When filming in the production stage the acoustics picked up by the microphone while recording are not always clear so sounds are recorded and edited into the visual footage. These sounds are enhanced which improves our audio experience.

The word "Foley" is also used to describe a place, such as Foley-stage or Foley-studio, where the Foley process takes place.

TECHNICAL: 3-Point Lighting

What is Three Point Lighting ?

The Standard 3-Point Lighting Technique. The Three Point Lighting Technique is a standard method used in visual media such as video, film, still photography and computer-generated imagery. It is a simple but versatile system which forms the basis of most lighting.

Image result for what is three point lighting

The reasons to why we use three point lighting is not only so that we see the whole shot but depending on where the lights are set up, it can help create an atmosphere. The size of the light, its colour temperature, and how powerful it is are all important technical pieces which help towards creating an atmosphere.

When planning towards our music video, we have noticed that some locations we have chosen to film have low lighting therefore using 3-point lighting would be needed as it will help reduce possible noise in our footage. These locations would of been our tunnel scene in waterloo and also the party scene. During filming in the tunnel scene our light sources where not bright enough to achieve a clear shot therefore we tried to film in areas that where more exposed to daylight for connivence in post production and also so that we can achieve more professional shots. These would have been the shots like the graffiti wall outside the tunnel and the stair entrance into the tunnel.

PLANNING: Shotlist

Shot list for TGIF from Anna Gajda

this is our shot list which we have created. With the use of this shot-list we can refer to this when we shoot our music video. This is important as this is a clear structure on how we want our music video to look like which is why we will try to implement these shots in our music video. Additionally we can see refer to this and add more shots which we will when creating our music video. We based these on our storyboard/animatic which has most of these shots and with this list ive included more shots which would be in chronological order. This is more of a visual for us to see and imagine in our heads how we want our music video to turn out. We will also use this shot list when filming so that we make sure all shots are taken in all angles.

Post production commentary:
we have updated our shot list and we have found that our music video is mostly  based on these shots which means that we added which take and try was the best. We added some extra scenes and shots whilst filming as we thought that having more shots and angles made is better when filming, we included long shots of the main character walking, we had  couple groups shots when champagne was opened and we had more close ups on the main characters face. Additionally when filming in the tunnel (Waterloo location graffiti tunnel) we wanted to capture the graffiti on the walls so we added panning shots on the graffiti to establish a scene and add the convention of a rap music video which is to show bright colours and art.

PLANNING:Moodboard:Costumes:Male and Female

Outfits we would include in our music video for male and female characters

Mood board for outfits from Anna Gajda

Costume analysis:
Based on our research we have found that the most common outfit for rappers is branded clothes such as Adidas, nike, supreme and Vans.We wanted to portray the conventions of rap genre so we will aim to include some branded clothes like Nike, Timberlands or Jordans which will allow the main character to show off his clothes as that is what rappers do in their videos they show off their watches, shoes and tops which are branded. We found that bomber jackets and hoodies are also present in rap videos which would be more suitable if we are filming outside as wearing a coat would make the main character fit the setting better if we do choose to film in the graffiti place 'Water loo'. Rappers also wear ripped jeans and have their hair slicked up or in a hat/beanie which is what we might include as that will allow audiences who watch rap videos to watch this one because they can connect the similarities between the videos of real music videos to ours.

For females we thought of not having revealing clothes this is because we want to keep it in our target market which is 16-24 and having women in bikinis or too revealing clothing can deter our target market which means we would limit our target age group. we decided to have ripped jeans crop tops and not too formal dresses for a party scene but more of jeans, tops which would be more applicable.

Audience feedback:
1.  Do you see yourself wearing such clothes?

2. What music genre do these clothes portray? e.g. rap, country, pop

3.Are you familiar with any of these brands?

4. what age groups would wear these clothes?

5. Would rappers wear such clothes?

6. Are these female clothes suitable for a party scene?

Analysing the results:
based on these results we see that our results we have gathered from our peers is that they would wear such clothes which means that we are targeting our target market of 16-24 year olds additionally the genre of rap is portrayed through the clothes presented which means that if we include such concepts of clothing in our video we will match conventions of rap which is to have branded clothes. With the brands presented we can see that the audience do recognise them which means that we can include such clothes which the audience will recognise which increases convention of rap genre being about brand deals and showing off clothes. We also see that the audience do think rappers wear such clothes which means that our person lip syncing the rap scene will look realistic as the clothes and the character would suit the role of the rapper.  We got responses that say that the female clothing is also suitable for a party scene which means that if we do include such scene we can be sure what to refer to as these show how audience have an idea about rappers and that its about rich, branded clothes with style.

PLANNING:Moodboard:Location Analysis and Audience feedback

Mood board for location from Anna Gajda

Location Analysis:
we chose locations such as the 'Waterloo Graffiti tunnel', 'Car park' and crew members house. we filmed this and chose these locations because we though that these are local and easily accessible which means that we wouldn't struggle with people getting into our shots. We would like to film in waterloo station as it contains graffiti which is bright coloured which matches the song of it being Friday which means that people are happier which the colours represent. The tunnel would be quite hidden which means not many people would be walking past and getting into our shots. The location of a carpark or a narrow street would be ideal as we can have a dolly shot of the singer rapping and dancing towards the camera whilst the camera goes back which allows to create an establishing shot. We would dance as most rap videos show dancing which means that body language can establish what the song is about we would have fast and energetic dancing which would give a vibe of friday which means that everyone is happy.

Audience feedback on location:
1.What genre do the pictures portray?

2.What kind of atmosphere are these pictures creating?

3.What age group do you think these pictures are aimed at?

4.Which gender do these pictures appeal to more?

5.Do these locations remind you of other songs which included these locations?

6.Do these images portray an interesting visual?

7.Would you be interested in a song if these locations were chosen?

8.What picture is the most appealing out of these?

Evaluating the results:
Based on this audience feedback we can see that these locations will portray our genre of rap/hip hop as that is what the audience have inferred from our locations. Additionally the atmosphere we want to create is evident in the audience response as they see that its about having fun, chilling with friends and partying which the song is about. we can also infer that our audiences are identifying what target market is suitable for the music video which is roughly 16-24 year olds which is what we will base our music video on. They mostly said the the graffiti scene is the most appealing which means that we will film there as it portrays our genre and seems to impact our audience the most.
